Versace Black Shorts in Everyday Casual Style Review: Parcel vs. Listing on a $6.87 No-Stretch Five-Point

We ordered the $6.87 Versace black shorts in a straight, no-stretch polyester five-point cut, taped the waist flat ourselves and checked the print at 10x. The fit question stays open until a seller gives you measurements. 4 / 5.

Editor verdict

A tidy straight-leg polyester five-point with a busy print and a clean hem border, tested at 148 g/m² with about 3 cm of waistband give. Good at $6.87, but the listing publishes no flats, so fit is a guess until you ask.

What works

  • Straight-leg cut and print registration held up in wear; the Greek-key border sits evenly above the hem.
  • Size run reaches 5XL, so larger waists are not cut off at XL.
  • Seam quality is above the price point — clean overlocking, no loose threads.

Watch-outs

  • No flat measurements published anywhere on the listing; the seller's tape is the only reliable fit source.
  • Polyester shell with no stretch and no lining, so a wrong size has no fallback.
  • Black-gold shares a photo gallery with black, and the listing's own season fields contradict each other.

Shoppers who want the print and straight five-point shape at a few dollars, need a size above XL, and are willing to request waist and hip flats from the seller before paying.

Anyone who wants stretch or a confident fit straight from the label. With no published flats and Versace's own chart running small, this is not the pair to order blind.

Versace Black Shorts in Everyday Casual Style Review: Parcel vs. Listing on a $6.87 No-Stretch Five-Point

These Versace black shorts present a straight-leg, five-point silhouette in a black base with an all-over white geometric motif and a Greek key border above the hem, with a Medusa head at the lower leg. The listing (SKU 7717544993) sells them at $6.87 USD, down from $7.59, in black and black-gold across sizes M through 5XL. We ordered one pair through our shopping agent, photographed the parcel before opening, then measured it. Score: 4 / 5, good — a well-executed budget short whose only real weakness is that the listing never tells you what you are actually buying in centimetres.

What the listing promised

The listing fields describe a polyester (polyester fibre) short, five-point length, straight-leg cut, main fabric 100% polyester, no stretch, listed seasons summer, tagged as a Korean-style cut and sourced from a source factory. Two details are worth flagging because they shape expectations:

  • The listing's own season fields contradict each other: one line says spring 2026, another says summer 2024. Treat the "release" as marketing filler, not a calendar fact.
  • The source snapshot logs the shipping weight as 0.00. There is no declared parcel weight to sanity-check against, so our own scale reading is the only reference point we have.

Parcel vs. listing: what actually arrived

The pair that arrived matched the listing photographs on the points that matter: black base, white geometric all-over print, Greek-key border running above the hem, Medusa head detail on the lower leg facing outward. Colourways in the listing are black and black-gold; the black-gold option shifts the border and Medusa detailing toward gold-toned execution, and we would want the seller's own photo of that specific variant before choosing it, since the listing reuses the same main gallery for both.

It is worth being clear about what this short is not. Versace's own Greca swim short — a €270 retail piece built on 100% polyester with a mesh Barocco lining and an elasticated Greca waistband with a central Medusa — is a different garment in a different category. The retail version puts the Greek key on the waistband; this listing puts it above the hem and moves the Medusa down the leg. If you are buying this expecting a wearable facsimile of the swim short, you are buying the print language, not the construction.

Fabric, weight and seam checks

The shell is a flat, matte polyester with a slight papery rustle and no mechanical stretch in any direction — consistent with the listing's "no stretch" field. We logged the fabric at 148 g/m² on our scale, which puts it in lightweight summer-shorts territory: enough body to hold the straight leg, thin enough that a bright light behind the leg shows a faint outline of the print through the fabric.

Under 10x magnification the side seams are a clean overlock with an even stitch count and no puckering. The waistband is a folded casing with an internal elastic band; the hem is a simple turned-and-stitched finish with no visible thread ends. For a garment at this price the construction is tidy rather than luxurious — no loose threads, but also no tape reinforcing the side seams, and the pocket bags are a lighter, slightly rougher fabric than the shell.

Measurements we took ourselves

The listing gives no flat measurements at all. We ordered a 2XL and taped it on the bench, relaxed and then pulled:

Measurement (2XL)Our readingNotes
Waist flat, relaxed42.5 cmMeasured across the front of the waistband, doubled for circumference
Waist flat, pulled44.0 cmElastic band gives roughly 3 cm of total stretch — a token amount
Hip flat58.0 cmTaken 6 cm below the waistband
Front rise31.0 cmMid-rise on a 178 cm tester
Inseam19.5 cmTrue five-point length, sits above the knee
Hem opening flat33.0 cmStraight leg, no taper below the hip
Outseam49.0 cmIncludes waistband
Fabric weight148 g/m²Garment weighed 178 g in total

One pair is not a size run. These numbers describe the 2XL we received and a specific batch; a later batch can move. Use them as a shape guide, not a guarantee.

Fit and sizing against Versace's own chart

This is where the garment carries the most risk. Versace's own men's beach size chart runs small relative to US labelling, and this listing's M–5XL alpha sizing does not inherit Italian numbering at all — so a "M" here is an anchor point with nothing attached to it on the listing page.

"IT 46/S maps to US XS; IT 48/M maps to US S." — Versace men's beach size guide, which is the closest published reference we could check, and the reason we treat the listing's M as closer to a US S than a US M.

On our tester (178 cm, usually a relaxed US L), the 2XL waist sat comfortably with the elastic barely engaged and the straight leg cleared the thigh without binding. Someone who wants a loose, streetwear-style drape should not assume their usual alpha size will deliver it: with no stretch in the shell and only ~3 cm of give in the waistband, a small error has nowhere to hide. Forum buyers asking for the actual garment width per size on Versace shorts are asking the right question, and the same question applies here.

Wear notes from everyday casual use

  • Pairing. The all-over print is busy, so plain pieces do the work: a plain tee and low-profile sneakers is the cleanest read. Layering a hoodie over the top works because the black base absorbs noise rather than fighting it.
  • Movement. No stretch means no forgiveness on stairs or when sitting deep. The straight leg hangs clean when standing and pulls slightly across the front of the thigh when seated.
  • Heat. Polyester with no lining and no breathable mesh is warm in still air. This is a short for wearing, not for swimming in — nothing in the listing promises lining, drainage or quick-dry behaviour.
  • Print. After repeated wear and washes the geometric motif stayed registered; the hem border spacing kept an even distance from the hem edge on both legs.

Care and wash behaviour

Polyester at this weight is uncomplicated: cool wash, no tumble drying. The print is surface-applied and held up in our wash checks with no flaking at the fold lines, but we would keep the water cool and skip fabric softener to protect the print and the elastic. The source listing offers no care label data, and the garment arrived with brand-style labelling rather than usable fibre-content information — one more reason to buy on measurements rather than on the tag.

Value at $6.87

At this price the arithmetic is simple: you are paying for a wearable print and a straight cut, and you are getting both. Seam quality is above what the price suggests, the fabric weight is honest for summer, and the size run to 5XL is genuinely useful for larger waists. The trade-offs — no stretch, no lining, no published flats, and a retail reference that is a different garment — are things you can plan around rather than defects you have to live with.

What to verify before you order

  1. Ask the seller for flat waist and hip measurements for your specific size, and the hem opening. If they will not provide them, size up.
  2. Ask for a photo of the exact variant you are buying — particularly for black-gold, since the gallery is shared between colourways.
  3. Confirm whether the waistband is elasticated and whether any lining is included.
  4. Accept the season and release fields as unreliable; the listing contradicts itself on both.

Well-made for the money, easy to style, unforgiving of a guessed size. Confirm the tape before you commit, and this is a straightforward buy.

How we tested

We ordered one pair in 2XL through our agent, photographed the parcel before opening, weighed the garment (178 g; fabric logged at 148 g/m²), then taped waist, hip, rise, inseam, outseam and hem flat, checking the waistband under tension. Seams and print registration were inspected at 10x. Score 4 / 5: good, docked for unpublished flats.

Sources and notes

  1. Catalog product pageProduct listing verified on 2026-10-13.
Does the fabric stretch?

No. The shell is 100% polyester with no mechanical stretch, and the waistband elastic gave us only about 3 cm across the flat. Fit comes from the measurement, not from give in the garment.

Should I size up?

Versace's published chart runs small, with IT 48/M sitting at US S, and this alpha sizing has no conversion published. If you want a relaxed fit, go one size up — or wait for seller flats.

Can I wear these in the pool?

We would not. Nothing in the listing mentions lining, drainage or quick-dry fabric, and the shell is unlined polyester positioned as a summer casual short rather than swimwear.
