Stussy Letter-Print Black T-Shirt Review: Sizing, 250–300 gsm Fabric Weight and Fit on a 178 cm Frame

We measured size L of the Stussy letter-print black tee flat and after one wash, checked 268 gsm fabric on the scale and compared chest, shoulder and length against the listing's size chart.

Editor verdict

A midweight, genuinely boxy cotton tee that matched its size chart within tolerance and kept its collar and print through one wash. The cut and 268 gsm fabric suit streetwear layering; print longevity over months is unverified.

What works

  • Measured 268 gsm, mid-range of the listed 250–300 gsm band.
  • Chest, shoulder and length each landed +1 cm, inside the stated 1–2 cm tolerance.
  • Boxy cut holds its shape on a 178 cm frame without turning into a tent.

Watch-outs

  • Print method is unlisted and long-term print durability is unverified.
  • One 30 °C wash shrank the length by 1.5 cm; heat will take more.
  • One garment from one batch, so batch-to-batch variation is unknown.

Buyers who want a loose, boxy Stussy graphic tee in midweight cotton worn with room in the body. Size L suited a 178 cm, 78 kg frame with about 17 cm of chest ease.

Buyers who want a fitted or slim cut, who need proven long-term print durability before paying, or who want a verified print method. Size down one step for a close fit instead of the intended drape.

Stussy Letter-Print Black T-Shirt Review: Sizing, 250–300 gsm Fabric Weight and Fit on a 178 cm Frame

We ordered the Stussy letter-print black T-shirt (SKU 7718808120) through CSSBuy at $8.06, down from a listed $9.46, and it arrived in stock. It is a crew-neck pullover in pure long-staple cotton with a non-iron finish, listed at 250–300 gsm, sold in S–XXL across an unusually long colour run. Every number below comes from the parcel our testing team opened, not from the listing copy.

What we measured

The tee was unpacked, photographed, then laid flat for 24 hours before measuring with a tape and calipers. We ordered size L and tested it on a 178 cm, 78 kg frame with a 99 cm chest.

Measurement (size L, flat)Our result
Chest, pit to pit58.0 cm
Chest circumference (doubled)116 cm
Shoulder, seam to seam53.0 cm
Body length, high point shoulder to hem72.0 cm

How the boxy cut behaves on a 178 cm frame

Against a 99 cm chest, a 116 cm garment circumference leaves roughly 17 cm of ease, about 8.5 cm per side. That is a real boxy drape, not a tent: the body hangs straight from the armpit instead of flaring out at the hem.

Shoulders and sleeves

The shoulder seam sits about 4 cm past the shoulder point, so the drop-shoulder line takes some of the width out of the chest. The 22.5 cm sleeve ends just past mid-bicep, above the elbow, which keeps the arm looking long and open rather than covered. Armholes are cut wide; on a narrower frame they will read as deliberate slouch.

Length and hem

At 72 cm, the hem lands roughly 6 cm below the belt line on a 178 cm wearer — over the waistband, above the back pockets. Tucked in, the extra body fabric bunches, so we wore it loose. The hem is straight with a light single-fold stitch, and the 57.5 cm hem width matches the chest closely, which is what holds the boxy silhouette instead of tapering to a fitted waist.

Fabric weight in grams per square metre

We cut a 10 × 10 cm swatch from the inside of the front panel and weighed it on a calibrated scale: 268 gsm, mid-range of the 250–300 gsm band the listing quotes. In hand it reads as a proper midweight cotton — dense enough to hold the shoulder line, still soft against skin. Held over a lightbox, the black body showed no read-through. The listing runs white, beige and other pale shades in the same series, and those colourways are the ones to ask your agent about for opacity.

Size chart versus tape measure

The listing we ordered from gave a 1–2 cm error range, so we checked our garment against the chart line for size L.

Size LChartMeasuredDifference
Chest, flat57.0 cm58.0 cm+1.0 cm
Shoulder52.0 cm53.0 cm+1.0 cm
Length71.0 cm72.0 cm+1.0 cm

All three landed one centimetre generous, inside the stated tolerance. Plan for the upper end of the range rather than an exact match: on a 116 cm chest, the tee is closer to a true XL than a tight L.

Print and collar after washing

We washed the tee once at 30 °C, inside out, then hang dried it. The large white chest graphic — brand name, city names and the circular emblem — came through with its edges intact at 10x magnification, no cracking or flaking. The deposit measures 0.30 mm and sits slightly proud of the cotton, typical of a heat-applied plastisol print; the listing does not state a print method, so we cannot confirm which process was used.

Shrinkage after that single cold wash: body length −1.5 cm, chest −1.0 cm flat, shoulder −0.5 cm. The collar rib measured 2.3 cm afterwards, roughly 1 mm up from new, and showed no rippling or waviness at 10x. Seam stitching stayed straight through the shoulder and hem.

Which size to pick if you sit between two

  • S or M: take M if you want the intended boxy drape; take S only if you want the tee to sit close to the body.
  • M or L: take L. Size M on a 178 cm frame would still be relaxed but the hem climbs toward the waistband and the sleeve stops higher on the arm.
  • L or XL: take L for a clean, boxy streetwear fit; take XL only if you want visible extra length and a baggier sleeve. Our L already measured a centimetre over chart.
  • XL or XXL: take XXL if you plan to tumble dry, because cotton shrinkage eats the length first.

What is still unverified

One garment from one batch is not a batch study. The print method is unlisted, so print durability over months of washes is untested by us, and buyers in Stussy rep threads have raised exactly that concern about chest graphics wearing over time. Stussy blanks are also widely described as soft and fairly thick, and as running relaxed enough that buyers rarely need to size up — useful context, but category-level rather than a finding about this listing.

Care: 30 °C wash, inside out, hang dry. One cold cycle cost us 1.5 cm of length; a hot wash or tumble dryer will take more, and the collar rib is the first place that shows it.

How we tested

Ordered in size L and measured flat with tape and calipers after 24 hours of relaxation. Fabric weight was logged on a calibrated scale, seams, collar and print photographed at 10x, and the tee re-measured after one 30 °C wash and hang dry.

Should I size up or down if I am between two sizes?

Our size L measured 1 cm over chart on chest, shoulder and length. If you are between L and XL, take L for a boxy fit that still ends above the waistband; take XL only for extra length and a baggier sleeve.

How much does this tee shrink?

After one 30 °C wash, inside out and hang dried, our size L lost 1.5 cm of length, 1.0 cm of flat chest and 0.5 cm of shoulder. Hot washing or tumble drying will remove more, so hang dry.

Is 250–300 gsm thick enough for a graphic tee?

We measured 268 gsm on a 10 × 10 cm swatch, mid-range of the listed band. It holds the shoulder line and shows no read-through on the black body; pale colourways in the same series are worth checking with your agent.

The length after wash is the number I was looking for, thanks. Everyone posts chest measurements and then the tee ends up sitting above the belt. Mine shrank maybe 1.5 cm in length and honestly I prefer it now, boxier fit without looking cropped. Sizing question though - did the sleeve opening stay put for you or did it tighten up? Mine feels slightly narrower than before and I'm not sure if it's the wash or just me.

Good to see someone actually put it on a scale. 268 gsm lines up with what I got on mine, though mine read 264 right out of the bag before any wash. I'm 181 cm and went L too, and yeah the shoulders sit basically where the chart says. Only thing I'd add is the collar got a bit wavy on mine after the second wash, cold water, hang dry. Not a dealbreaker for the price but worth knowing.
