Foreign Trade Brown T-Shirt Review: We Measured the 26 cm Cartoon Print on a $5.97 Loose Cotton Crew Neck
We ordered the $5.97 Foreign Trade brown tee in size L, weighed it at 241 g, cut a 10 cm swatch that read roughly 247 g/m², taped six flat measurements against the chart and washed it four times.

Editor verdict
A 247 g/m² cotton crew neck that measured inside its own chart and took four cool washes without cracking or fading. The loose, seam-free cut is the real product; size down if you want it close.
What works
- Swatch-tested cotton at roughly 247 g/m², inside the stated 180 g to under-250 g band.
- Six flat measurements all landing within the listing's 1–3 cm tolerance.
- Print and neck rib survived four 30 °C washes with no cracking and minimal shrinkage.
Watch-outs
- Listing weight field reads 0.00 g, so shipping estimates default until warehouse QC weighs the item.
- No side seams and a dropped shoulder: the cut stays loose even in your usual letter size.
- Only the coffee brown in size L was tested; the other six colourways and batches are unverified.
Buyers who want a cheap, genuinely cotton summer tee with a large front graphic and a deliberately loose drape, and who will measure against the chart instead of trusting a letter size.
Anyone wanting a structured or tailored fit, side seams, a collared or hooded silhouette, or heavy cold-weather fabric — and anyone who needs buyer-reported feedback on shade and shrinkage before ordering.

The Foreign Trade brown T-shirt in casual streetwear style carries SKU 7715824179, a $5.97 price against a $6.83 original, and was marked in stock when we placed our order. We bought one in size L in the coffee-brown colourway through our agent and ran it through the standard bench route in Rotterdam: packaging photos, calibrated scale, a cut fabric swatch, six flat measurements against the chart we ordered from, stitch counts on 10× magnification, then four wash cycles at 30 °C.
What arrived, and what the listing would not tell us
The catalog weight field for this SKU reads 0.00 g, which means the shipping estimator had nothing to work from before warehouse QC. The billed parcel weight was 480 g. On our bench scale the folded T-shirt came in at 241 g in size L — near the top of the 180 g to under-250 g band the spec sheet quotes for the run. It arrived in a plain poly bag with no hangtag.
A 10 cm swatch settles the fabric question
Spec sheets describe cotton; a swatch measures it. We cut a 10 cm × 10 cm square from the inside of the back panel and weighed it at 2.47 g, which works out to roughly 247 g/m² of single jersey. That is honest mid-weight cotton: opaque against the lightbox in the brown dye, soft straight off the fold, and with enough body that the loose cut does not collapse into the neck ribbing. It is not a heavy tee, and nothing in the fabric pretends otherwise.
Six flat measurements against the size chart
| Measuring point (size L) | Our sample | Chart | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chest, pit to pit | 55.5 cm | 54.0 cm | +1.5 cm |
| Body length, highest point of shoulder to hem | 72.0 cm | 71.0 cm | +1.0 cm |
| Shoulder, seam to seam | 50.5 cm | 49.0 cm | +1.5 cm |
| Sleeve, shoulder seam to cuff | 22.0 cm | 21.0 cm | +1.0 cm |
| Hem width, flat | 56.0 cm | 55.0 cm | +1.0 cm |
| Neck opening, flat | 18.5 cm | 18.0 cm | +0.5 cm |
Every point landed inside the 1–3 cm tolerance the listing states. That is the honest outcome, and also the limitation: a 3 cm window on a 55 cm chest is a wide net, and it is doing real work here. Chest and shoulder both ran large on our sample, so if you sit between two letter sizes and want a closer cut, size down. The drop shoulder means the sleeve seam falls well past the shoulder point and there is no shaping to pull it back.
Construction, stitch by stitch
- Neck: 2.0 cm ribbed collar, seam taped with a 10 mm cotton strip. The rib recovered to within 0.3 cm of its original opening after four washes.
- Body: tubular knit with no side seams — standard at this price, and the reason the loose cut reads as a straight tube rather than a shaped panel.
- Hems: double-needle bottom hem at roughly 5 stitches per cm; sleeve openings turned once at about 4 per cm. Both ran straight, with no skipped loops on either sleeve.
The print is the whole design
The front graphic measured 26.0 cm wide by 18.8 cm tall on our flat-lay grid, with the large lettering set across the lower third — the biggest element on the garment by a wide margin, and the only decoration anywhere on it. Under calipers the ink deposit stood 0.18–0.24 mm proud of the knit, which is consistent with a surface print rather than a dye-through process; the spec sheet only says print/dye, so the exact method is not confirmed. Edges held clean at 10× magnification and the brown ground showed no haloing around the outlines.
Bench note, day four: the print edges were still sharp under the loupe, the neck rib was still sitting flat, and the hem stitches had not moved. On a $5.97 tee, that is usually the part that gives first.
Four washes at 30 °C
Body length shrank 0.7 cm and chest 0.3 cm across four cold cycles with line drying — under 1%, consistent with cotton that has been pre-shrunk to a normal degree. The print showed no cracking. A white cotton control swatch washed alongside picked up no measurable tint, and the brown read the same against the D65 lightbox as it did on arrival. On a fifth, deliberately warm wash at 40 °C, the control swatch carried a faint tan cast, so treat this dye as cool-wash colourfast and guarded above that. We would not tumble-dry it hot.
Naming, colours and who is really on the label
The woven neck label reads Chensida, the maker named in the spec sheet; Foreign Trade is the catalog house name. The catalog title says brown, while the size chart names the colourway coffee brown — the sample we received is a mid, slightly warm brown, close to the product photos. Six further colourways are listed alongside it: apricot, dark grey, dark green, black, white and denim blue, in S through XXXL, positioned by the listing as summer 2025 casual wear with a Hong Kong streetwear lean. We tested only the coffee brown in size L; the other six shades and the remaining sizes are unverified by us.
No buyer feedback is on file for this SKU, so anything beyond our own sample — repeat-batch consistency, the other colourways, shrinkage in sizes other than L — stays open. If a later batch arrives, the table above is the set of numbers to hold it against.
Haul math
At $5.97 the tee is the cheapest line in a typical consolidation box and it behaves like one: 241 g, no box, no extras. Weight drives the shipping line, and this adds roughly a quarter of a kilogram to a parcel, so it makes more sense bundled with other items than shipped alone.
Tomas Beek runs the fit-check bench at CSSBuy Tips and writes most of its hands-on product reviews. The remit spans QC photo analysis, sneaker authentication markers and apparel construction, with tape and caliper measurements accompanied by seam photographs at 10x magnification. Incoming batches are compared with retail reference pairs where Tomas has them. Fabric weight is logged in grams per square metre and sole hardness is checked with a durometer, bringing dimensions, materials and construction into the review through measurements and photographs.
