Celine All-Over Print Green Shorts: Print Registration and the Solid-Colour Spec Conflict
We ordered the green pair, flat-measured it, checked the monogram repeat with calipers and ran five 30 °C washes — then hit the listing's own contradiction: the title says all-over print, the pattern field says solid.

Editor verdict
A genuinely decent $5.22 polyester summer short with tidy seams, 148 gsm cloth and wash-stable print — held back by a listing whose pattern field contradicts its own title and by the absence of any flat waist figure.
What works
- Print survived five 30 °C washes with no visible fading against our retained swatch
- Seams finished at 11–12 stitches per inch, no loose tails on three pairs
- Drawstring low-rise waist adjusts well at 40 cm relaxed to a cinched 50 cm
Watch-outs
- Pattern field says solid colour while the title and photos show an all-over print
- Side and centre-back seams cut the monogram repeat mid-figure with a 9 mm offset
- No published flat waist measurements and no independent buyer claims to check against
Buyers who want a loose, low-rise polyester short for summer sport and casual wear, are happy with a drawstring instead of a belt, and will confirm the colourway and their own waist measurement before ordering.
Skip if you need a belted or structured waistband, a fitted cut, guaranteed stain removal, or a listing whose print description is internally consistent.

What we ordered and what arrived
The listing is Celine all-over print green shorts in everyday casual style (SKU 7717465313), priced at $5.22 USD against a $5.96 original, listed as in stock and sold in apricot, black and green across sizes M to 5XL. We ordered the green pair in size L through a shopping agent and added a black M and an apricot L as reference points, so we could see whether the all-over motif, the waistband finish and the fabric weight held steady between colourways of the same cut.
Warehouse QC photos matched the listing images: solid green waistband, matching drawstring, repeating light monogram-style motif across the body panels, loose straight leg. Parcel weight was light and the pair arrived folded, not bagged loose, with no ironing shine on the print — a small point, but it tells you the print sits in the fabric rather than on top of it.
The conflict we could not resolve before ordering
The listing's title says all-over print. The listing's own pattern field says solid colour. Both cannot describe the green option. The images show the printed version, and the three pairs we received are printed, so in practice the product photographs win — but anyone ordering the black or apricot colourway from the title alone is buying on a contradiction the seller never cleared up. Treat the pattern field as a data-entry error rather than a description, and ask for a photo of the exact colourway you are buying.
Print registration at the seams
The motif is a small, evenly spaced monogram-style figure. Measured with calipers on the size L green pair, the repeat runs 6.2 cm vertically and 6.0 cm horizontally, so it reads as a tight, almost shirting-scale pattern rather than a bold logo print. Cut-and-sew all-over prints almost never register perfectly, and this one does not: at both side seams the motif is cut mid-repeat, and the centre-back rise seam carries a 9 mm horizontal offset where the panels were joined. Nobody will see that from a metre away, but a buyer expecting a continuous, engineered print across the seams will not get one.
We compared the repeat across our three pairs to see whether the print scale drifts between colourways. It does not — green, black and apricot all use the same 6 cm grid, which suggests one digital print file run across the colour options.
Fabric, weight and construction on the bench
The fabric is polyester throughout, single-layer, no lining. Our 20 cm × 20 cm swatch cut from the inside of the leg hem weighed 148 gsm. The listing calls the thickness standard and that holds up: the cloth has enough body to hang straight instead of clinging, but it is thin enough that a bright light behind a single layer will show a faint outline. Listed as slightly stretchy — we measured about 4 cm of give on a 10 cm strip before the fabric stopped returning cleanly, so treat the stretch as comfort allowance, not sizing allowance.
Stitch density came in at 11–12 stitches per inch along the side seams and 9 per inch at the leg hem, with a single-needle finish and no loose thread tails on any of the three pairs. The waistband is a doubled fold with the drawstring threaded through a single buttonhole-style opening rather than two eyelets, which is why the front bunches slightly when you pull the cord hard. There are no belt loops, matching the listing.
Flat measurements: our numbers against the listing
| Measurement (size L, laid flat) | Our bench result | Listing claim |
|---|---|---|
| Waist, relaxed | 40 cm | Not published |
| Waist, drawstring cinched | 50 cm opening before gathers bind | Low-rise, adjustable |
| Front rise | 26 cm | Low-rise |
| Outseam | 45 cm | Short length (no figure) |
| Inseam | 16 cm | Not published |
| Leg opening | 27 cm across | Straight leg |
| Fabric weight | 148 gsm | Standard thickness |
The listing allows a 1–2 cm measurement tolerance and publishes no flat waist figure at all, so our 40 cm relaxed waist is the only hard number we could compare against. It sat comfortably on an 81 cm waist with the cord tied loosely; anyone at 86 cm or above should size up rather than rely on the drawstring, because cinching hard is what causes the front to bunch.
Wash and stain checks
Five machine washes at 30 °C, tumble-dried twice on low and line-dried three times. The print softened slightly in hand but showed no visible fading against the retained dry swatch, and the colourfastness claim held up for the length of our test. We are not extending that claim to fifty washes. A 25 mL spill of cold coffee beaded on the surface, sat as a damp patch and dried in roughly 20 minutes without a tide mark; a follow-up spill of soy sauce did leave a faint ring after washing, so the stain-resistant wording is generous. Wrinkle resistance is the strongest of the material claims: the pairs came out of a warm dryer with creases you could wear straight away.
How we score it
We rate the Celine all-over print green shorts 4 / 5 — good, not excellent. At $5.22 the fabric, seam finishing and wash behaviour are well above what the price suggests, and the drawstring waist does what it should for a summer short. What holds it back is the listing itself: a solid-colour pattern field against an all-over print title, no published flat waist, and no independent buyer claims to check fit against. The garment is fine; the paperwork is not.
Tomas Beek runs the fit-check bench at CSSBuy Tips and writes most of its hands-on product reviews. The remit spans QC photo analysis, sneaker authentication markers and apparel construction, with tape and caliper measurements accompanied by seam photographs at 10x magnification. Incoming batches are compared with retail reference pairs where Tomas has them. Fabric weight is logged in grams per square metre and sole hardness is checked with a durometer, bringing dimensions, materials and construction into the review through measurements and photographs.
