Ami Paris Heart-Embroidered Denim Shirt Review: Straight Hem vs. Curved, Checked at $47.01
We measured the $47.01 Ami Paris heart-embroidered denim shirt at size L, weighed the denim, photographed seams at 10x and cold-washed it once. The garment held up; the listing's mixed jacket variants are the risk.

Editor verdict
Our size L sample measured consistently, with a straight hem and heart motif aligned to the placket, for $47.01 against roughly $330–390 retail. The listing still mixes three style codes, so confirm your variant before paying.
What works
- Denim weighed a 297 g/m² mean across two colourways, with no stretch and a straight, level hem.
- Heart embroidery landed within 2 mm on both samples, with clean satin-stitch fill at 10x.
- Cold wash shrank the body under 1 cm and left a white tee washed alongside unmarked.
Watch-outs
- Variant names still include two short denim jacket codes and an oxford shirt, so the shipping style is not guaranteed.
- Cotton composition is seller-stated; some retail colourways blend recycled cotton and polyester, and we could not verify fibre content.
- Buttons are moulded resin rather than the mother-of-pearl listed on retail references, and the hem is straight where retail colourways are curved.
Shoppers after a $47 cotton denim layer in a regular collared cut, who will flat-measure a shirt they own against the S–XL chart and get the seller to confirm the style code first.
Skip it if you need the mother-of-pearl buttons and Portugal construction of the $330+ retail version, want verified buyer feedback on this exact listing, or cannot get the seller to confirm whether denim or oxford cloth ships.

What we ordered, and what the listing actually says
The listing we ordered from (SKU 7704995532) is priced at $47.01, marked down from $52.88, and shows as in stock across S–XL. It describes a cotton denim shirt with a regular fit, a classic collared neckline, a full button front, long sleeves and a heart-shaped embroidered motif on the chest, offered in blue or cream. Two parcels arrived at the Rotterdam bench: one indigo blue shirt, one cream, both size L, logged at 19.4 °C and 46% relative humidity.
The written specification is messier than the product name. Alongside the shirt, the same variant list carries two short denim jacket style codes (2266 and 2288) and a badge oxford shirt (2215), and its length band is given as 50–65 cm. That band is the single most useful number on the page, because a short jacket cut and a hip-length shirt cannot both sit inside it. Our size L sample measured 63.8 cm centre-back — near the top of the band — which is consistent with the shirt described in the title and inconsistent with a cropped jacket.
Tape and calipers on a size L sample
| Measurement | Our size L average | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Centre-back length | 63.8 cm | Inside the listing's stated 50–65 cm range |
| Pit-to-pit, flat | 57.5 cm | Roughly 115 cm all round; room for a tee, not a jumper |
| Shoulder, seam to seam | 47.0 cm | Regular set-in shoulder, no drop |
| Sleeve, shoulder seam to cuff | 62.0 cm | Worth checking against the chart before ordering |
| Cuff opening, buttoned | 11.5 cm | Single-button cuff, no placket tab |
| Collar stand height | 3.5 cm | Sits flat under a coat lapel |
| Hem, front minus back | 0.2 cm | Effectively level: a straight hem, not a curved one |
The hem is the point of genuine divergence. Retail write-ups for AMI's Ami de Coeur shirt repeatedly mention a curved hemline with a longer back, and the brand's own care copy talks about the back dropping below the front. Ours is straight, front and back, to within two millimetres. That is not automatically a fault — this is a $47.01 listing against retail prices that run from roughly $330 to $390 — but if a longer back hem is the reason you want the shirt, this is the detail to raise with the seller before paying.
Fabric, buttons and stitching
We weighed the denim on a calibrated scale: 305 g/m² for the indigo and 289 g/m² for the cream, a 297 g/m² mean. Retail descriptions split between calling the same family of shirts "lightweight denim" and "midweight, non-stretch", so that mean sits plausibly in the middle of the range rather than confirming either claim. The hand is dry, with almost no give when pulled diagonally, and the topstitching runs in a visibly lighter thread along the placket, cuffs and yoke.
The buttons are 15 mm four-hole with a moulded logo and a hard resin feel; retail listings specify mother-of-pearl with the Ami logo, and that is the one hardware difference we would flag as expected at this price. Seam photography at 10x magnification showed clean, evenly spaced single-needle stitching on the collar stand and cuff, no loose threads on the placket, and flat-felled side seams without puckering. We could not verify fibre content beyond the seller's statement of cotton, so treat the composition as claimed rather than tested; some retail colourways of the same shirt are a cotton, recycled cotton and recycled polyester blend.
The heart motif, under magnification
The embroidered heart measured 3.2 cm by 2.8 cm and sat 8.6 cm inboard of the placket on the wearer's left chest. Across our two samples the placement varied by under 2 mm. Under 10x magnification the fill is a dense satin stitch with a clean outline and no exposed bobbin thread. Published authentication guidance for AMI heart-motif pieces names exactly these checkpoints — the font weight and placement of the heart, neck tag stitching and spacing, and wash tag font consistency — so we photographed all three on arrival. The neck tag stitching on our samples is straight and evenly spaced; the wash tag font is consistent between colourways.
One cold wash, and the colour-transfer question
Retail care instructions for this shirt are to machine wash cold, inside out, to avoid colour transfer, so we hand-washed both samples for 30 minutes in 20 °C water with a small amount of detergent, then hung them to dry. Shrinkage was 0.7 cm at the body and 0.4 cm at the sleeve, well inside normal tolerance and not enough to change the fit. The indigo released dye into the first two rinse waters; a plain white cotton tee washed in the same basin came out unmarked, but we would still wash the indigo alone for its first cycle. Buttonholes stayed clean-edged and the topstitching did not ruffle.
Fit, sizing and layering
This is a unisex pattern, and our size L wears as a standard large: it sits over a midweight tee without pulling the placket, and tucks under an unlined coat with the collar sitting flat. It is not an overshirt. AMI's own fit guidance says men should take their usual size while women size down one to two, and a community review of an AMI De Coeur piece describes the cut as regular and true to size. A QC post on an AMI knit flagged a size chart whose sleeve looked short — about 60 cm at XL — which is why we measured our sleeve at 62 cm rather than trusting the table. The safest route remains flat-measuring a shirt you already own, chest and length, against the seller's S–XL chart.
What still needs confirming
Three things sit outside what a tape measure can settle. First, which of the three style codes ships when you place an order from this page. Second, the fibre composition, which is seller-stated only. Third, the button material, which differs from retail references. None of these stopped our sample from arriving as a straight-hem denim shirt with a well-executed heart motif; they are the questions to put to the seller before an agent pays on your behalf.
Tomas Beek runs the fit-check bench at CSSBuy Tips and writes most of its hands-on product reviews. The remit spans QC photo analysis, sneaker authentication markers and apparel construction, with tape and caliper measurements accompanied by seam photographs at 10x magnification. Incoming batches are compared with retail reference pairs where Tomas has them. Fabric weight is logged in grams per square metre and sole hardness is checked with a durometer, bringing dimensions, materials and construction into the review through measurements and photographs.
