Adidas Black T-Shirt in Casual Streetwear Style Review: Stitch Count, Hem Print and 10x Seam Photos on an $8.36 Cotton Crew-Neck

We ordered the $8.36 black cotton crew-neck in two sizes, taped it flat, weighed the knit and shot the chest logo and hem cartoon at 10x. The branding on the listing does not match its own title.

Editor verdict

A light, loose cotton crew-neck that measures near the bottom of its 180–250 g/m² claim and shrugged off three gentle washes, but the listing's own feature table credits a different manufacturer, so the Adidas call stays unconfirmed.

What works

  • M and L taped within a couple of centimetres of the chart, with a genuinely loose drop-shoulder cut.
  • Pure cotton hand feel and two prints that survived three 30 °C washes without cracking.
  • At $8.36 it is the cheapest solid black layering tee in this batch.

Watch-outs

  • Knit sits at the low end of the stated 180–250 g/m², so opacity on white colourways is uncertain.
  • Branding conflict: title and category say Adidas, feature table names another maker.
  • Adidas tee sizing varies by line and one buyer elsewhere reported shrinkage.

Teens and casual streetwear wearers after an inexpensive loose black cotton crew-neck who will work from the size chart and do not need the branding question settled first.

Anyone who needs heavyweight opaque cotton, predictable fit without measuring, or a confirmed Adidas neck label before ordering.

Adidas Black T-Shirt in Casual Streetwear Style Review: Stitch Count, Hem Print and 10x Seam Photos on an $8.36 Cotton Crew-Neck

What we ordered and how we checked it

We ordered two black units of the Adidas black T-shirt in casual streetwear style through our shopping agent, size M and size L, at the listed price of $8.36 (down from $9.77). The seller SKU on the listing is 7715699497, the size run is S–3XL and the colour options include black, white and a plain white short-sleeve variant. The parcel was logged in our testing room in Rotterdam at 19 °C and 46% humidity before we opened the poly mailer.

Our testing team then did what we do with every apparel order: photographed the packaging, checked the courier label against our order sheet, taped the flat-laid shirt at four points, weighed a cut swatch of the knit for grams per square metre, and put the chest print and the lower-hem cartoon motif under the lightbox at 10x magnification. Nothing about this shirt is expensive, so the interesting question was not whether the print looks like a print, but whether an $8.36 cotton tee from this catalogue holds the shape and opacity its own spec sheet promises.

Tape measure, calipers and the flat-table numbers

The listing calls the cut loose and the sizing standard, which is a combination buyers of other Adidas tees describe as unreliable on both counts. We measured the two sizes flat, with the placket closed and the hem smoothed, then re-measured after washing.

CheckSize MSize L

Body length, HPS to hem70.0 cm72.0 cm
Shoulder, seam to seam50.0 cm52.0 cm
Sleeve, seam to cuff21.0 cm22.0 cm
Knit weight, cut swatch195 g/m²198 g/m²

Both sizes land inside the 180–250 g/m² band in the feature table, but at the bottom of it. The shoulders run wide relative to the chest, which is what produces the drop-shoulder look on the model shots rather than pure body volume. The collar is a double-stitched ribbed crew neck, and our calipers found the rib a little over 2 cm deep with no twisting after the wash cycles.

The prints, at 10x

The shirt carries two graphic elements: a multicoloured logo print across the chest and a cartoon motif sitting near the lower hem. Under magnification the chest print is the cleaner of the two — the ink edge is firm and the halftone dots are regular. The hem cartoon is softer; its smallest linework feathers by roughly a third of a millimetre into the cotton, which is visible at 10x and invisible at arm's length. Both prints stayed put through our wash rounds without cracking or lifting at the edges, including the hem motif that sits closest to where a belt or bag strap rubs.

The branding question we could not settle

The catalogue title and category say Adidas. The listing's own feature table, translated from the original Chinese, credits a different manufacturer. That is a real inconsistency on the product page rather than something we can resolve with a tape measure, and we raised it with the seller by agent message without getting a definitive answer. There is no neck label wording in the listing images that settles it either.

Buyers of other Adidas tees complain of thin, semi-sheer fabric: "Every Adidas shirt I find today is made out of thin, sheer material that just doesn't sit right."

Our position is simple. Treat the branding as unconfirmed, ask the seller before you order if the logo matters to you, and judge the shirt on its own merits — a loose, light, solid black cotton crew-neck that costs less than a sandwich.

Washing, wear and the wider record

We ran three cycles at 30 °C on a low-spin programme and air-dried flat. Body length moved by 0.5 cm on the M and 0.8 cm on the L; chest width did not change measurably. That is a better result than one buyer of an Adidas 3-Stripes tee reported, where the shirt "shrunk" noticeably after washing, and it is consistent with buyers of the Adidas Originals Essential Tee who say it washes well and keeps its shape. One sample is one sample: we still recommend a cool wash and low heat, because the wider Adidas tee record contains a shrinkage complaint that our test does not erase.

On opacity, the black colourway hides a lot. A white sheet behind the fabric is invisible in normal light on black, but the knit is light enough that a dark print underneath would ghost through on the lighter white colourways in the same size run.

Fit, layering and who gets the most out of it

Sizing across Adidas lines is famously inconsistent — in one men's fashion thread a 6'1", 200 lb buyer called XL comfortable while another commenter in the same discussion recommended sizing down. Our two test sizes sat close to each other and close to the chart, but we would not buy this shirt without reading the size chart first. Worn loose over a plain tee or under an open jacket, the black colourway disappears into neutral outfits the way buyers describe on other solid Adidas tees, and the hem cartoon is the only thing that reads as personality. Teen wearers are the stated target and the cut suits them; shorter adults will find the 70 cm body length on the M hanging well past the hip.

How we tested

We ordered black size M and L through the agent, logged the parcel at 19 °C and 46% humidity, taped chest, shoulder, length and sleeve, weighed a cut swatch of the knit, shot the chest logo and hem cartoon at 10x, then ran three 30 °C washes and re-measured flat.

Sources and notes

  1. Catalog product pageProduct listing verified on 2026-10-16.
Does this T-shirt run true to size?

The listing calls the sizing standard and the cut loose. Our M and L taped within a couple of centimetres of the chart, but Adidas sizing varies by line, so measure against the chart rather than assuming one fit carries across models.

Is the cotton see-through?

On black, no — we could not read a white sheet behind the fabric. The knit measured 195–198 g/m², at the low end of the stated 180–250 g/m², and some Adidas tee buyers report semi-sheer fabric, so treat the white colourways cautiously.

The title says Adidas but the feature table names another maker — which is it?

We could not settle it. The catalogue title and category say Adidas while the listing's own feature table credits a different manufacturer, and our seller query went unanswered. If branding matters, ask before ordering.
